Overview
Traveling through the West MacDonnell Ranges we make our way to the Historic Precinct of Hermannsburg. Explore the historic buildings and Art Gallery featuring works of the famous Aboriginal Artist Albert Namatjira. We depart Hermannsburg and journey along the ancient Finke River bed towards Palm Valley in our custom built 4WD. Enjoy a bushmans lunch as we near Cycad Gorge and Palm Valley. A short drive to Cycad Gorge before then enjoying a real 4WD drive into Palm Valley where you will be able to wonder amongst the relict Palms and Cycads. Palm Valley is home to a diverse range of plant species, many that are rare and unique to the area, including the red cabbage palm (Livistona mariae), which gives the area its name. Here you will have the opportunity to complete to the River Walk, before returning take in the rim platform viewing of the Valley and experience this Oasis in the desert. On the return journey enjoy a short walk up to Kalaranga Lookout, an amazing view of the area. Late afternoon, we return to Alice Springs watching the fading light reflecting of the MacDonnell Ranges. (Summer Time - Hermannsburg is visited in the Afternoon.).
